Daytona International Speeday

Thunder Eagle® Protects One of America's Premiere Sports Venues

Daytona International Speedway is one of America's and the world's most widely recognized sports venues regularly attracting upwards of 150,000 fans at major events. Fan safety is a major challenge in Florida, the lightning capital of the world.

Situational Awareness - Before, During and After an event.

The NWS sponsors an important severe weather preparedness program called StormReady Thunder Eagle's FipsServer system supports Daytona International Speedway's StormReady Certification for automated multiple sources of weather alerts, including a link into ReadyAlert which automatically forwards NWS FipsServer severe weather alerts to 1000's of Daytona fans. FipsServer provided critical information to support the safe evacuatation of 150,000 fans at the 2014 Daytona 500.

A possible funnel cloud was spotted from the stands during the 2014 Daytona 500. Making the decision to evacuate 1000's of fans from the stands is always challenging. If not made in time, people can be injured or worse. If made too early, or unnecessairily, fans will protest and not listen to future evacuation instructions.

Up to the minute weather information automtically provided to all of the decision makers, as well as to the fans, was critical. Thunder Eagle Daytona Website The public, rightly, demands direct access to the latest information on which they base their actions, including Detailed Wx Radar and Hourly Weather Graphs

As a result of thorough planning, weather alerts are automatically distributed to fans and track personnel via multiple radio channels, including fan scanner channels, email and the web site.

The weather alerts are also printed out at key control locations throughout the venue. The website with the alerts also displays as a slideshow on numerous flat screens.
