Thunder Eagle® Supports The National Tornado Hunt
|
The Great Tornado Hunt-Vortex2 is a national field exploration seeking to better understand
how, when and why tornados form. The goal is to use the information obtained to increase
critical warning times and make warnings more accurate.
|
|
The 'Hunt' is not a ratings stunt. It is a serious, and sometimes dangerous, pursuit of one
of nature's most powerful weather events. Above left is the 2013 Hunt car before it got
rolled in a tornado on
May 31, 2013 (right). Luckily there were no serious injures.
Note the windshield cracked by hail (left).
|
The Hunt uses Thunder Eagle's WE110 NOAA weather alert radio in the scanner mode that
receives and records the most recent local weather alert. The WE110 automtically finds the
strongest NWR signal which is critical for The Hunt as it searches for tornados from Texas
to Minnesota. Note the WE110 in the console (right).
